Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice share moving comments in Amy Dowden update

Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice shared moving comments about their co-star Amy Dowden after they were asked for an update following her cancer diagnosis.

Amy shared last month how she'd found a lump which was later confirmed as stage 3 breast cancer. The Welsh dancer, who has appeared on the BBC's hit dance show since 2017, first discovered a lump in her right breast in April, the day before she and her husband Ben Jones flew to the Maldives for their belated honeymoon.

After being aware of the lump while trying to enjoy her dream trip with her husband, she previously shared how she started to "check it less" out of worry. But it wasn't until she was back at home and getting ready for a dance show that she noticed the lump in her right breast had become bigger and went to the doctors where she was quickly referred and told the news she had breast cancer.

Amy has since undergone surgery to remove her right breast and is waiting to hear whether she will need solely radiotherapy treatment, or chemotherapy, too.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss their upcoming joint tour, titled Him and Me, Anton and Giovanni were asked by host Susanna Reid how Amy is doing and if they have been in touch with her. While Giovanni described Amy as a "fighter", Anton said: "She's an incredible girl, and we're all wishing her as much love as we can and as send much support as we can!"

He went on to reveal: "We're all on a group chat and we're with her through the whole journey. We can't wait to see her back on the show, fighting fit."

Last week, in a post-surgery update, Amy told her fans and followers that her surgery “went well” and gave a “big thank you” to her surgeons and nurses who had been “utterly amazing”. She added in a message on her Instagram Story: "(I’m) very sore but focusing on the positives, they said the surgery went well! Thanks for all the support and messages."

Ahead of starting treatment yesterday, the TV star took to Instagram to share a photo of herself from her hospital bed as she told her fans and friends that she is starting 'step one to beating cancer'. Whilst she donned a hospital gown, the Strictly favourite looked positive as she smiled for the camera and put two thumbs up.

Amy then told her followers: "Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor." Her fellow Strictly professional dancers and former contestants soon flocked to the comments to send their love and support.

Strictly pro Gorka Marquez commented "You got this," whilst Kevin Clifton added: "Love u sis." Former It Takes Two host Zoe Ball commented: "Huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy." Another Strictly co-star, Karen Hauer, also added: "Love you. You've got this."
