Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden thanks fans for 'boost she needed' following breast cancer news

In a moving health update, Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden revealed to her followers that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has now thanked her fans for their "outpouring of support" saying it was the boost that she and her partner Ben Jones needed after going public with the news.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional posted the personal news on Instagram, telling her 328,000 followers: "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dancefloor before you know it. Welsh love Amy."

Since the announcement, Amy received many comments of support including from the fellow Strictly Come Dancing cast and The One Show host Alex Jones. Amy has now thanked her fans for their support on Instagram.

She said: "Hey all, I'd like to say THANK YOU all for the outpouring of support I've received in the last few days. It means so very much to me and Ben and certainly the boost we needed. Thank you thank you thank you!" and used the hashtags #breastcancerawarenesss #checkyourchest #letsbeastthis #breastcanceryoung.

When announcing her diagnosis Amy, who hails from Caerphilly, also shared a candid interview she had done with Hello! Magazine, where she told the publication: "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age. My mum has had breast cancer but she had it at a later age, in her 50s."
