Strictly Come Dancing bans studio audience for first time ever due to lockdown

Strictly Come Dancing has been forced to ban its studio audience for the first time in show history, due to lockdown.

As the new rules come into effect from Thursday, the show has cancelled tickets for anyone expecting to watch the show live in November.

The show has confirmed it will not be selling any more tickets to the live shows until they are "sure it will be safe and compliant".

A spokesperson said: "In light of the new lockdown measures which take effect in England from Thursday November 5, we’re sad to announce that we won’t be able to have a live studio audience for Strictly Come Dancing during November.

"Ticket holders have been notified.

"No tickets will be sent out for December shows until we are sure it will be safe and compliant to welcome audiences back, so please keep checking back for updates.

"We will continue to follow government guidelines."

They added: "We understand how disappointing this will be, but we very much hope we will see some of you later in the series."

This week is Movie Week on the show, after last week saw Jacqui Smith get the chop alongside her partner Anton du Beke.

Max George and his partner Dianne Buswell will be performing a homage to the Simpsons, dressed up as Marge and Homer for their couple's choice dance.

Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, who were saved after being in the bottom two last week, are performing to the song Zero to Hero, from Disney movie Hercules.

Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez are dancing an American Smooth to Into The Unknown from Frozen II, while Nicola Adams and Katya Jones are jiving to Greased Lightnin'.

* Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One
