Are you ready to eat? The best street-food dishes found in Bangkok will be served on the same premises during The World's Best Street Food by Worldgas festival, which will take place in front of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road, this weekend Feb 9-10 from noon-9pm.
The World's Best Street Food
Held for the first time by WP Energy in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, this is a historic event as it will gather a total of 34 street-food shops and restaurants that have been selected by a committee of world-renowned chefs, restaurateurs, food critics and food celebrities to receive the World's Best Street Food by Worldgas awards.
The dishes judged for awards are divided into four categories: rice dishes from 11 shops, noodle dishes from 12 shops, desserts from three shops, and miscellaneous (such as papaya salad, grilled pork, grilled chicken, pork satay, mussel pancake and fresh/fried spring rolls) from eight shops.
Judgements are based on the unique taste as well as popularity, which can help attract tourists and promote street-food tourism in the Kingdom.
The award-presentation ceremony will be held on Saturday, from 3.30-6pm, and everyone is invited. On both days, all 34 shops will present their signature dishes at their booths.
Besides food-tasting, visitors will witness a live food battle between a Thai fine-dining chef, Michelin starred Ton from Le Du, and a Thai street-food chef, Gigg from Lerdtip restaurant. The event will take place on Sunday at 6pm.
Set to delight visitors with their music will be the band Pause on Saturday and O-Pavee on Sunday. The mini-concerts will start at 7pm on both days. Interested food lovers also have until today to vote for their favourite street-food shops/restaurants to vie for a 500 baht coupon to be used at the festival.
