Strathcarron Hospice patron the Princess Royal receives warm welcome

The Princess Royal received a warm welcome at Strathcarron Hospice during a visit last Friday.

It was the first time the patron of the hospice had visited the facility in two years, due to building work in 2019 and the pandemic in 2020.

The visit lasted two hours, during which the princess met patients inside the hospice as well as members of staff outside in the grounds.

At the start of the visit Princess Anne was presented with a posy by creative arts facilitator Laura Neill before meeting staff accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Stirling and Falkirk Alan Simpson.

After spending time with patients she was presented with shortbread by catering supervisor Nan Smith as well as a Strathcarron scarf by deputy area retail manager Fiona Hannah.

The scarf, in the Strathcarron tartan, had been commissioned for the hospice’s 40th anniversary this year.

Strathcarron Hospice chief executive Irene McKie said following the visit:“Friday was a wonderful day for the hospice and we were delighted once again to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to help us celebrate our 40th Anniversary.

“It was a great day for staff and patients and there was a lovely party atmosphere which brought home how hard everyone has been working over the past year and how nice it is to have a relaxed happy day.

“Most of the visit was conducted outside which gave the staff a good opportunity to meet and see her and catch up with each other.

“The Princess Royal’s support of the hospice since she first visited in 1982 has been amazing.”
