Strathaven Dynamo starlet captains Scotland to win on debut

Strathaven Dynamo AFC are celebrating the achievements of one of their most talented young players, after Kate Fraser captained Scotland Schools Under-15s to victory on her first appearance for the national side.

The 13-year-old, who plays for the club’s 2007 team as well as turning out for Hamilton Accies girls Under 16s, played at centre-half as she led her country to a thumping 6-3 win against Northern Ireland in Larne last month.

The Scotland squad also included fellow Strathaven Academy pupil Emma Thomson.

But it was a dream start for Kate, who said: “I loved representing my country and to captain the team on the day was the icing on the cake.

“I will never forget it, what an honour and a great experience. This has really given me a thirst to aim for attaining more caps.”

Kate is now gearing up for playing in the Bob Docherty Cup during the Easter holidays in Newcastle, where Scotland will find themselves up against teams from across the home nations.

She added: “I am really looking forward to playing in this competition and can’t wait to get involved.

“Strathaven Dynamo have really helped me to develop as a player and helped to get me where I am today with Accies and Scotland.

“I love the club and playing alongside the boys has helped improve my strength.

“I would recommend the club to anyone.”

Strathaven Dynamo AFC Chairman, Frank McGraw, is thrilled for Kate and said: “Everyone at Strathaven Dynamo is so proud of Kate and what she has achieved.

“She is a true inspiration to all our players – girls and boys – and we are so happy to see her succeed in the game that she loves.

“Kate is a fine young person and a great example of the development potential that Strathaven Dynamo offers young players.

“We can’t wait to follow her career as it progresses, as we have even higher hopes for her.”
