Stormzy 'overwhelmed with emotions' as he becomes Glastonbury's first black British headliner

Stormzy has posted a poignant message on Twitter where he admitted to being “overwhelmed with emotions” ahead of his Glastonbury Festival headlining set tonight (28 June).

Over two tweets, the grime star expressed his gratitude to the festival’s organisers, as well as the historic importance of his set.

“I am the first black British artist to headline Glastonbury”, he wrote. “At 25 years old I am the second youngest solo act to ever headline Glastonbury, the youngest being a 24 year old David Bowie in 1971.”

He continued, “I’m overwhelmed with emotions, this is the most surreal feeling I’ve ever experienced.”

In his second tweet, he added: “I feel my entire life has lead to this moment. Can’t explain or fathom what this all is but I am 100% sure this is all God and his favour. Giving him all the glory.

“Thank you to Emily and Mike Eavis for believing in me, I can’t wait to see you and hug you both.”

Stormzy performs tonight at 10.15pm at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage. It has additionally been confirmed that the performance’s live broadcast on BBC 2 will not be censored.
