Storm Jorge alert as Ayrshire hit with yellow weather warning

Ayrshire is bracing itself for another weekend of wicked weather as Storm Jorge blows in.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with parts of the north, east and south of the region expected to be hit.

Forecasters say a spell of strong winds are expected to move north-east across a large swathe of the UK through Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Exposed coastal areas are likely to bear the brunt of the gusts while a separate weather warning for snow – which could fall on higher routes, particularly inland and around Ayrshire's borders with South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway – has also been published.

Disruption to public transport is anticipated with motorists urged to take extra care if getting behind the wheel.
