Storm Hannah on its way as Met Office predict thunder and lightning for Merseyside

The Met Office has officially named the eighth storm of the season as they predict thunder and lightning for Merseyside.

Forecasters at Met Eireann (the Irish National Meteorological Service) named Storm Hannah as an area of low pressure looks set to bring winds of 65mph to the UK.

At the moment there are no weather warnings in place and experts believe it will first hit Ireland and then southern parts of Britain.

The Met Office said: "The storm will bring severe gales to Ireland on Friday night, with strong winds also expected for southern parts of the UK."

Merseyside will not completely escape adverse weather conditions as thunderstorms are predicted for later today.

Lightning is expected after lunchtime with heavy rainfall through most of the day, only stopping at around 6pm.

Temperatures will remain mild at 14°C, but are a far cry away from the highs of 25°C at the weekend.

More rain will fall throughout Friday and Saturday as Storm Hannah hits and the mercury levels drop to lows of 7°C.

The Met Office said: "Bright at first, but clouding over with a spell of rain through the middle of the day. Skies will brighter again later with a few showers. Fairly breezy. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

"Cool, wet and windy on Saturday with gales and spells of heavy rain. Drier and brighter on Sunday, although still with a few showers possible. Further rain arriving on Monday."
