Storm Franklin Scotland: Flood and wind warnings issued by Met Office

Storm Franklin is battering Scotland today as flood and wind warnings are in place during the country's wild weather outburst in just days.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for high-speed winds until 1pm alongside a total of 15 flood warnings in place across the country.

The 16 alerts are in force despite the fact that Scotland will escape the worst of the storm.

Southwest Scotland and parts of the west coast have been warned to prepare for very strong winds.

Three 'flood alerts' and 12 of the more severe 'flood warnings' by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) cover areas in central Scotland, the Scottish Borders, Tayside, Argyle, Ayrshire and Bute.

It's been an extreme weather period as Storm Franklin follows in the wake of Storm Eunice and Storm Dudley with a thrashing of rain, wind, snow and ice.

Scotland yellow wind weather warning

"Further periods of very strong winds on Sunday and Monday, with possible disruption," says the Met Office warning.

The yellow weather warning is set from Sunday at 12pm to Monday at 1pm.

Travel disruptions across the board, property damage and even power cuts could occur due to Storm Franklin.

Gusts could vary widely from 50 to 60mph whilst 65 to 75mph gusts could batter west facing coastal areas.

What to expect

• Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen, along with trees/branches being brought down
• Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
• Some roads and bridges may close
• Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
