A storm brought down power poles in Muang district of Nakhon Phanom overnight, causing widespread blackouts, as the weather office issued a new, four-region storm warning.
The storm hit tambon Khamthao in Muang district, uprooting at least 20 roadside power poles late Wednesday night, cutting off electricity, telephone and internet services.
The Provincial Electricity Authority crews were still working to repair or replace the damaged power poles on Thursday.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or damage to houses.
The Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a summer storm warning for provinces in the Northeast, East, North and Central regions from Saturday to March 27, with the Northeast and the East to be hit first.
A high pressure system from China would move in and meet the hot weather over upper Thailand. From March 23-27 summer thunderstorms were likely in the upper half of country, the department said.
Thundershowers, gusty winds and hail were possible, first in the Northeast and the East and then the Central and North regions.
The weather agency warned people to stay away from outdoor areas, big trees and unsecured billboards during a storm. Farmers were advised to prepare for damage to their crops.
