Steven Gerrard to make Anfield return as Liverpool Legends squad confirmed

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will return to Anfield pitch next weekend as Liverpool Legends host Barcelona Legends.

Next Saturday will see a whole host of familiar faces back at the home of the Reds as the club raises money for the Liverpool FC Foundation. Similar matches of this kind were also staged in 2017, 2018 and 2019 but have not taken place in the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and AC Milan Legends have all taken part in Legends fixtures against the Reds, with Gerrard involved on all three occasions. The Aston Villa boss is now set to be involved for a fourth time and is looking forward to getting involved.

“It’s always a great experience returning to Anfield to play in the foundation’s charity matches and the reception me and the lads receive is always top notch,” he said. “We are happy to lend our support to help raise funds for the important work they do in supporting children and young people.”

Also lining up for the Reds on the day will be the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia and Steve McManaman, backed by a coaching team of Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, John Aldridge and John Barnes.

Barça Legends will be managed by Albert Ferrer and represented by Gaizka Mendieta, Juliano Belletti, Javier Saviola, Edgar Davids, among others.

This fixture will help to raise funds for a variety of LFC Foundation projects, including its employability and training and health and wellbeing programmes, which form an important part of the charity’s COVID-19 recovery support work. Proceeds raised from this year’s game will also help LFC Foundation’s charity partners, with The Owen McVeigh Foundation and Right to Play both receiving donations.

A limited number of tickets are still available for the game. For further details, click here. Fans can also watch the game on Facebook Live for £1.99.
