Steven Gerrard set for bushfire fundraiser as Rangers boss receives Australia invite

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been invited to take part in an Australian fundraiser at the end of the season.

Gerrard could head to Sydney for the Football for Fires game after the Football Federation Australia issued an invitation to the Liverpool legend as they raise funds following the bushfires.

Gerrard wouldn't have to worry about any Rangers games with the event taking place six days after the end of the Premiership campaign.

The Scottish Cup Final has been brought forward because of Euro 2020 meaning Gerrard's season will definitely be over by Saturday May 23.

Footballing legends such as Didier Drogba, David Trezuguet, Dwight Yorke, Alessandro Del Piero and Ji-Sung Park will all definitely take part - as will former Celtic star Scott McDonald.

And organisers are hoping Gerrard will also accept their invite and get his boots on for the cause.

FFA Chief Executive Officer James Johnson said: "I'm delighted that football had come together for this very special occasion.

"The thoughts of the entire football family have been with the victims of these terrible bushfires over the past few weeks.

"We now we have this important opportunity to harness the power of our global sport to raise funds to assist in the re-build of our local devastated communities and honour the brave men and women who have put their own lives at risk during this unprecedented natural disaster."
