Steven Gerrard scores first Rangers goal as Ibrox boss makes penalty admission

Steven Gerrard scored in a bounce game as he laced the boots up once again and donned a Rangers shirt against an amateur outfit at Ibrox.

He also bagged an assist but the former Liverpool legend did miss a penalty in the clash with Viewfield Rovers on Tuesday.

The match finished 4-4 and Gerrard joked about his spot-kick miss in the shootout.

Posting on Instagram, he said: "4-4 goal and an assist but keeper saved my pen in the shootout.

"Congrats to Viewfield Rovers, great set of lads (very lucky as well by the way). 3-1 to us in the series. Just saying!"

Greg Docherty warns Rangers new boy Jake Hastie he'll need thick skin to succeed at Ibrox

The Rangers boss also ran the rule over Greg Docherty, who was back in Rangers colours today, in a closed doors game with a young Chelsea side containing Scottish wonderkid Billy Gilmour.

Gerrard and Rangers' director of football Mark Allen watched on as Docherty featured at Ibrox for the first time since his season-long loan at Shrewsbury ended.
