Steven Gerrard provides Jake Hastie Rangers transfer update after victory over Aberdeen

Steven Gerrard says Rangers are on the verge of announcing Jake Hastie's signing from Motherwell.

The youngster is understood to have agreed a three-year deal with an option of a fourth having starred at Fir Park since the turn of the year.

And following his side's 2-0 win over Aberdeen this afternoon, Gerrard said Rangers were "on the cusp" of announcing the 20-year-old's signing.

The Ibrox side will have to pay a compensation fee to Motherwell for the winger with the Steelmen expected to hold out for around £350,000.

Motherwell chief Alan Burrows recently commented on his club's attempts to keep Hastie at Fir Park. He said: “As far as I’m aware he hasn’t signed for anyone else yet.

“We’ve offered him a number of improved contracts but, when you’re doing well and scoring, your representatives can hold out for more.

“We’re now at the point where we’ve made him the best offer we possibly can within the club’s wage structure and we’ll see where that takes us.

“Because Jake’s out of contract he has a little leeway to be patient in terms of other suitors coming in for him.

“The nature of training compensation as introduced by FIFA means we can’t take that offer from the table because if we were to do that we’d effectively lose our right to compensation.

“So while he has a good contract from us he can afford to be a little more adventurous when it comes to holding on for alternative offers."
