Steven Gerrard 'in love' with Rangers transfer alternative as Aston Villa boss could trigger domino effect

Swooning Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly a major admirer of in-demand Chelsea star Conor Gallagher.

And if he turns his infatuation with the Crystal Palace loan star into a firm bid, then it could lead to the Europa League finalists Rangers facing a transfer call over Joe Aribo. A report south of the border on Tuesday stated the former Ibrox boss isn't interested in linking up with the Nigeria international at Villa Park. But his significant intrigue in Gallagher could see Palace, often linked with the the Super Eagles star, turn north of the border for his replacement. Aribo grew up in south London, within miles of Selhurst Park.

Eagles boss Patrick Vieira faces a waiting game with Thomas Tuchel set to give Gallagher a chance to impress him this summer before a long-term decision is made over the England international's future. The 22-year-old earned a host of admiring glances as he thrived in the Arsenal icon's attacking style – netting eight goals in all competitions.

And now Fabrizio Romano claims Gerrard has been vocal over his admiration of a player who has spent the last three season away from Stamford Bridge Speaking on his He We Go podcast, Romano said: "I'm told Steven Gerrard loves him, he really loves him and rates him highly but he's not the only one.

"I think that he will stay with Chelsea for the pre-season and they will decide with the player what is the best solution. I am sure that Thomas Tuchel wants to keep an eye on this boy before accepting any proposals. Tuchel wants to see this boy and work with him."

Aribo has one year remaining on his current Rangers deal, the same as stars Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.
