Steven Gerrard insists his full focus is on the job at hand at Aston Villa and that he's concentrating on the short term, as a huge game at Anfield looms.
The former Reds captain was appointed as Villa's new manager last week following the departure of Dean Smith.
The 41-year-old has now faced the media for the first time ahead of his first match in charge against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Gerrard says the short-term goal at Villa Park is to 'start winning football matches' as he refuses to be side-tracked by his return to Anfield next month.
"I think success in football is always about winning football matches, first and foremost," he said.
"Long-term, I think the club would like to be back on the European level. I don't think now is the right time to put a specific date on that.
"But for me more importantly it's about focussing on the short-term which is Brighton at the weekend. We need to start winning football matches again and moving up the table, that's the short-term goal.
"This press conference shouldn't be anything other than Aston Villa, everyone knows what Liverpool means to me and I said last week in a one to one that I’m all in."
He added: "In terms of Liverpool, again, I don't think this press conference should be about any other club but Aston Villa. I think we have to show respect to our supporters.
"I think everyone around the world knows what Liverpool means to me, but the focus and my commitment is very much at Aston Villa.
"I said last week in a one-to-one [interview] that I'm all in and I can promise our supporters, that's the case."
Gerrard will face his former club at Anfield on December 11 as he returns in the opposition dugout.
Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League table and have lost their last five games, their last win was against Manchester United at the end of September.
