Steven Gerrard claims Mohamed Salah is going to embarrass him at Liverpool

Steven Gerrard has predicted Mohamed Salah to go on and embarrass his Champions League goal record at Liverpool.

On Tuesday, Salah scored Liverpool's third in their 5-0 rout of Atalanta.

It was the 28-year-old's ninth of the season, 103rd of his Liverpool career and his 21st Champions League goal.

The strike means, in just three-and-a-half seasons, Salah has already matched the former Reds captain's tally.

Gerrard's 21 goals is the club record and it seems as though Salah will now go on to demolish it. But this is something the Rangers boss is happy to see.

"Records are there to be broken, of course they are," said Gerrard.

"I was very proud last night to see Mo Salah equal my scoring record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time. I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record — and I hope that he does."

It's something Gerrard can recently resonate with, too. Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos last week equalled Ally McCoist's long-standing record of 21 goals in Europe.

"Mo Salah and Alfredo Morelos go about their business always being hungry for goals," said Gerrard. "My job for Liverpool was slightly different.

“There is nothing better than seeing someone going for a record and then smashing it to pieces.”

With Liverpool top of their group it seems qualification is certain and Salah will have plenty more games to stand alone at the top of Liverpool's charts.
