Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole agree on major transfer decision facing Tottenham star Harry Kane

Antonio Conte could be joined at the Tottenham exit door by star striker Harry Kane with his contract up in 2024 and most unaware of where his future lies. The 29-year-old was particularly fond of Conte and this summer could be his last opportunity to secure a big move away, with it also being the last time Spurs could receive a substantial fee for his services if he opts not to sign a new contract.

Talk of Kane leaving Spurs to win trophies has been prominent for several years and once again any hope of achieving silverware at his boyhood club dissipated in the space of one week. Heading into March, Spurs were still in the FA Cup and Champions League, however coming out of the third month of the year, defeats to Sheffield United and AC Milan mean Spurs will go trophy-less for a fifteenth straight season.

Despite no team achievements coming his way, Kane has continued his remarkable personal success breaking two goal scoring records in 2023. In the 1-0 win over Manchester City, Kane became Tottenham's all-time record scorer surpassing Jimmy Greaves' tally of 266.

On the international stage, less than a week ago, Kane overtook Wayne Rooney as England's top scorer with a penalty against Italy for his 54th goal representing the Three Lions. The personal accomplishments will likely continue until he retires, but Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole believe the England captain faces a major domestic transfer decision if he has ambitions to win trophies.

"I don’t want to open a can of worms, [but] he’s got a big decision to make career-wise," Gerrard said on Channel 4's coverage of the Euro 2024 qualifier of England vs Ukraine. "I’ve been there myself where you’re thinking is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?

"He’s got a big decision to make. I can’t give him any advice on that but I bet you every single day of his life now moving forward it’s gonna be on his mind."

Cole went on to agree with his former national teammate describing the possibility of Kane not winning a single trophy in his career as a "travesty."

He said: "Harry Kane’s nearly 30 and he’s not lifted silverware so for a player of his ability that will be a travesty. He’s got a big decision to make, I’m sure it’s not going to be something he’s thinking about now because it’s all England now but come tomorrow morning he’s back with his Tottenham head on and they have to have a big decision.

"I just think it would be a travesty if he finishes his career without winning a trophy because he’s one of the all-time greats in this country, that’s for sure."
