Steven Gerrard admits Rangers face battle to sign Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted he hopes to acquire Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent on a permanent deal.

The winger has featured 40 times in all competitions for the Scottish outfit, scoring six goals.

And according to the former Reds midfielder the Glasgow club would like to secure his services on a long-term basis.

Gerrard was speaking in his press conference ahead of Sunday's clash with Hibernian.

The Kop legend said: "Ryan (Kent) knows we want him as do Liverpool.

"But he will have a big decision to make as teams will be queuing up for his services. My advice to Ryan is to go where you will be happy."

It was reported earlier this week the 22-year-old wants to end the 'repetitive cycle' of being loaned out.

Kent has played for five different clubs and appeared for the Reds just once in an FA Cup third-round draw with Exeter City in 2016.

According to The Daily Record, the playmaker has revealed his ambition to 'kick-start' his career.

Kent said: "I want to kick-start my career somewhere now. I am tired of changing clubs each year, I want to settle down somewhere.

"I have three years left on my contract at Liverpool and there’s not much I can really do.

"Whether or not I get opportunities to go elsewhere during the summer, I’d want a club with ambition, a club that’s driven on getting silverware."

Liverpool are said to want in excess of £12million for the player, and are unlikely to sanction another temporary move when he returns to Melwood this summer.
