Steve Cooper sets out Nottingham Forest transfer plan in preparation for Premier League

Boss Steve Cooper anticipates further outgoings - as well as incomings - in the coming weeks as Nottingham Forest build up to the Premier League season.

Four new signings have been added so far - in Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone and Moussa Niakhate - while Neco Williams and Omar Richards are understood to be close to signing. And Cooper admits “a lot more” additions are needed.

But the remainder of the window will also see players headed in the opposite direction as the Welshman shapes his squad. Goalkeeper Brice Samba has been the most notable departure so far, with Ethan Horvath, Mohamed Drager and Tyrese Fornah going out on loan.

Several youngsters are also likely to secure temporary spells elsewhere. And there are questions marks over the futures of the likes of Nuno Da Costa, Xande Silva, Nicholas Ioannou and Lyle Taylor.

On potential exits, Cooper told NottinghamshireLive after his team’s opening friendly defeat to Coventry City: “For sure. That’s normal. It’s not a negative comment, it’s normal. It’s normal with a change of seasons anyway, but particularly with us going up a league.

“Some young players are going to have to go out on loan and get their games. That’s going to be important as well, because we’ve got some really good assets in our first-team squad. We’re going to have to find the right programmes for them, which is including loans.

“There’s lots of work to do. One, we’ve got the squad which will be competing in the Premier League, and two, our other assets that we want to place at the right clubs to get the right progression. And obviously players will leave as well.”
