Steve Clarke urged to call up Martin Compston after 'excellent' Soccer Aid performance

Martin Compston has been praised for his ‘incredible’ Soccer Aid performance after his World XI side triumphed over England in the star-studded charity match.

The Line of Duty star lined up alongside footballing greats such as Roberto Carlos, Patrice Evra and Rivaldo in the fixture.

And the Greenock-born actor played a pivotal role in securing a 3-0 win against the England side.

And fans were left wanting more from the actor, who appeared to roll the clock back to his Greenock Morton playing days.

In the 75th minute of the match, Compston played a neat pass through to former Love Islander Kem Cetinay who stroked the ball home to put the World XI side two ahead on the night.

Football supporters and Compston fans showed their appreciation for his performance over social media.

One wrote: “Smart assist and general all round play, good football intelligence.”

Another joked: “Can someone tweet Steve Clarke to get Martin Compston in the actual Scotland team?”

And another added: “Martin Compston was excellent tonight. Gaffer would be proud."

Prior to the match, Martin was seen singing ‘no Scotland, no party’ in a bid to get his teammates up for the game.

And it obviously worked to good effect, as the World XI took home the trophy for a third year in a row at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester tonight.
