Steve Clarke addresses Celtic links as Scotland boss reveals post-Euros plans

Steve Clarke has played down suggestions of him taking over at Celtic after the Euros.

The Scotland boss has been listed amongst the candidates to replace Neil Lennon, but only after leading the nation to our first major finals in 23 years.

Clarke has been installed as third favourite to take the reigns at Parkhead after interim boss John Kennedy and Manchester City Under 23s coach Enzo Maresca.

Clarke has previously insisted that no Scottish Premiership club job could tempt him to leave Hampden.

And after being asked at a Q&A Edinburgh-based club Team United, which supports young people with autism, if he was ready to up sticks, Clarke reffairmed his commitment to the national team and hoped to still be the man in the hotseat for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I will be going on a long holiday after the Euros,” he said.

“And I am contracted with Scotland until 2022, when I’ll hopefully be taking us to the World Cup in Qatar.”

Clarke’s highly impressive turnaround of Kilmarnock that lead to him landing the Scotland gig hasn’t been forgotten and many feel he would be a good fit for Celtic.

However, his family situation meant the move to Killie suited him at the time, and he has not shown any interest in any other Scottish club job since.

A return down south may eventually appeal to the former Chelsea player and coach, but it seems Celtic will have to look elsewhere for their next manager.
