Steve Bruce's Allan Saint-Maximin verdict after dressing room unrest rumours

Steve Bruce says that Allan Saint-Maximin will be assessed over the next few days after missing the win over Crystal Palace.

The winger was withdrawn from the squad on Thursday night but Bruce played down talk of unrest behind the scenes.

Speaking after the 2-0 win over one of his former clubs, Bruce said: “Allan unfortunately picked up a calf injury.

“He was complaining about it before training, and then afterwards he wasn’t right, so unfortunately he’s picked up a calf.

“We’ll see how bad it is over the next couple of days.”

The victory unfolded against the Eagles with Callum Wilson and Joelinton getting on the scoresheet to defeat Roy Hodgson’s side.

Bruce said: “Callum’s a goalscorer – he has that instinct. “That's his seventh goal now – and that's a tremendous return."
