Steve Bruce has shut down talk that Ciaran Clark will be sold to either Crystal Palace or Bristol City - despite being linked to both clubs in the last 24 hours.
Bruce also dismissed talk that he is interested in Rangers captain - and former Toon youngster - James Tavernier.
But he admits that United still need more players before the transfer window shuts next week.
When asked about Clark, Bruce said: "That's not going to happen at the moment.
"We're playing with three centre-backs and with Lejeune injured we'll only have four so I don't think that's going to happen."
Bruce was spotted talking to Clark before the game after taking the player to one side on the way into Easter Road.
He said: "I explained the situation to Ciaran and he understood that totally."
When asked about Tavernier, Bruce said: "I really don't know where that came from and I hate it when people talk abut my players so I'm not going to comment on anybody else's."
With talks still ongoing for Nice winger, Allan Saint-Maximin, Bruce said: "I'm never going to speak about any player until the deal is done so I really can't comment on that."
