Steve Bruce 'not good enough' says Newcastle United legend Mick Quinn after League Cup exit

Mick Quinn believes Steve Bruce isn't good enough to manage Newcastle United.

The former Toon no.9 - who hit 57 goals in 110 games - hit out at Bruce after the Magpies were dumped out of the League Cup quarter-final by Championship side Brentford.

Josh DaSilva's second-half strike was enough to secure Brentford - who had made six changes from their usual league side - a place in the semi-final of the competition.

In truth, Newcastle were second best for most of the game.

Taking to social media, Quinn voiced his displeasure at the performance as well as criticising pundits who tell fans they demand too much.

"Poor again from Newcastle," he tweeted.

"Getting knocked out the cup - the team like the manager [are] simply not good enough, but we will probably get the pundits saying Bruce is doing a great job again.

"Is it so wrong for the fans to demand better after the **** that’s been served up lately?"

The Magpies had two chances of note - both coming in the first half when Callum Wilson and then Ryan Fraser for Brentford keeper Luke Daniels into good saves.

But Brentford always looked the more threatening - and the only goal of the game came with 66 minutes on the clock. Canos picked out Dasilva who was unmarked and able to fire past Darlow.

The Bees could have added to their tally with only Darlow keeping the score to one.
