Steve Bruce 'delighted' with Newcastle's transfer business after worrying about starting late

Steve Bruce has reflected on Newcastle United's transfer window for the first time.

The Toon head coach enjoyed a super end to the summer trading period as Sweden international Emil Krafth and Andy Carroll came through the door.

It took Newcastle's transfer tally to seven for the window in total with Joelinton, Jetro Willems, Allan Saint-Maximin, Kyle Scott and Jake Turner arriving on Tyneside.

For Bruce it has been a roller-coaster three weeks since being appointed and he said: "Yes you can say that again.

"You always worry because we started late.

"How many teams do you see doing it? Watford did it too.

"But in the three weeks we have to be delighted with what we have done."

And reflecting on Carroll's free transfer switch back to the club, Bruce added: "It was just a conversation was that he was desperate to come back.

Andy Carroll speaks for the first time since Newcastle move

"A fit Andy Carroll is as good as you get. It was a no-brainer.

"We are delighted to do it. He was in first this morning.

"He is already running."

Looking ahead to the Arsenal game on Sunday, Bruce said: "I did not think you get as excited as I am at my age.

"This is one of the highlights of my career.

"To be able to manage this massive club is right up there.

"Let's hope we can give the fans something to shout about."
