Steve Bruce confirms Andy Carroll exit after 'conversation' with Newcastle United youth product

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Andy Carroll has left Newcastle United.

The towering former England international held talks with United earlier this summer but has not come to any arrangement with the club who once picked up £35million for his services.

Back then he was sold to Liverpool but 10 years on, Carroll will leave in search of first-team football.

Carroll was believed to have been offered a deal by Newcastle at one stage but no agreement followed.

The 32-year-old's number 7 shirt was allocated to Joelinton on the eve of the friendly defeat at York City.

Bruce said: "He's out of contract. I had a conversation with Andy.

"I think he wants to go and play. I wish the lad all the best.

"I hope it goes for the rest of his career.

"He's certainly been a big help to me in the last couple of years, that's for sure."

And reflecting on the narrow loss to York, Bruce said: “It’s all about fitness, and we made several changes.

"They’ve had an extremely tough week and a lot of them showed a bit of fatigue… but it’s all about getting ready for a month’s time."
