Steve Bruce asked again in Press conference if he will walk away from Newcastle United

Steve Bruce says he is not taking his position in the Newcastle United dugout for granted - despite assurances from the powers that be that he is safe from the axe.

Bruce vowed to fight on after the 3-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion two weeks ago but was told his job was secure less than 24 hours later.

As it stands, owner Mike Ashley has not even seen the need to hold a conference call with Bruce, with managing director Lee Charnley tasked with relaying the message there would be no managerial change.

Bruce, however, knows that only good results will eliminate talk of him leaving the club.

Speaking ahead of the game with Spurs on Sunday, Bruce said: “I never take anything in football for granted, and I realise that the performance against Brighton was simply not good enough.

"So, you have to accept people’s opinions and move on with it."

When asked if he would swallow his pride and walk away from the job, Bruce commented: "Because we’re in a fight, the easy thing would be to walk away.

"But because we’re in a fight, and in the thick of it, the last thing I want to do is walk away.

"I’m determined to see it through, and that’s what I’ll try to do."
