Stephen O'Donnell emerges as shock favourite to take over at St Pat's

Stephen O'Donnell has emerged as the shock favourite to succeed Harry Kenny as St Patrick’s Athletic manager.

The former Dundalk captain is currently a coach and opposition analyst with the champions.

But O’Donnell has jumped to the top of the Saints wish list and Mirror Sport understands a permanent appointment is on the cards this week.

Dundalk are aware of St Pat’s approach for the 33-year-old who has a UEFA A Licence.

All managers in the Premier Division must be in possession of a Pro Licence, otherwise another holder of that qualification has to be appointed to the coaching ticket.

But Mirror Sports understood there have been recent discussions within the FAI to possibly relax that rule ahead of next season.

Ipswich Under-23 boss Gerard Nash was high on the Saints radar earlier this week having been sounded out for a second time.

But O’Donnell is now the clear favourite following positive talks with club chiefs in the last 24 hours and it is understood the job will be his to turn down..

Director of Football Ger O’Brien and coach Sean O’Connor will be in charge for tomorrow’s game against Finn Harps.
