Stephen Mulhern makes bizarre remark about Deal or No Deal and leaves fans baffled

Fans have spotted something odd about Stephen Mulhern's announcement about Deal or No Deal's return.

the gameshow, originally hosted by Noel Edmonds on Channel 5 is returning after seven years away, this time on ITV and with Stephen hosting,

After the news, Stephen, 48, took to Twitter to speak about his excitement, holding a red box with the number 20 on it, which are associated with the show.

As confetti exploded, a delighted Stephen, dressed in a bow tie and tuxedo, said: "This box means one thing. Deal or No Deal is coming back, yes it is.

"Now let me tell you, I used to watch Deal or No Deal when I was growing up and I am now honoured to be the new host of the show."

Stephen's joy may have got the better of him, as he was in his late twenties when the show began in 2005, running for 11 years, as many people were quick to point out on Twitter.

Sharing the video, one person said: “When I was growing up” you were 28 when it started."

Another wrote: "Hyped for #DealorNoDeal 's return but distracted by the fact that Stephen Mulhern said he watched it 'growing up' when he was very much 28 years old when the first ep aired."

A third fan penned: “I used to watch deal or no deal when I was growing up” has angered me more than it should. He was 28 when it first aired!"

Another simply pointed out: "Claims to have been a watched the show growing up. He was 28 when the first episode aired."

Deal or No Deal sees contestants choosing one of 22 boxes, each containing a cash amount between 1p to £250,000.

ITV has promised "a brand-new setting with brand-new prize boxes and a new batch of contestants".

When the announcement was made, Stephen said he had been practising hosting at home.

The Catchphrase presenter said: "Wow what an opportunity, I’m beyond excited to be hosting the brand-new series."

“I’ve always been such a huge fan of the show, so much so, I’ve been practising at home with small cereal boxes!

“It looks so simple but it’s an incredibly compelling game for both those playing and the viewers watching at home."

He continued: "It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Deal Or No Deal contestants have to try to win as much money as possible by gambling or having a good amount of cash in their chosen box.

They can also make the game's Banker offer a significant cash sum for their box regardless of what is inside.

Stephen is best known for being a presenter on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, the spin-off game show In For a Penny, plus Catchphrase, which he has hosted for a decade.
