Stephen A. Smith labels Buckeyes’ Justin Fields a top-three college player

Ohio State is laced with some of the nation’s best collegiate talent, but none have been more impressive than Justin Fields.

Fields, in his second collegiate season and first full one with Ohio State, transferred from Georgia. The transition was good for Fields, as he was immediately able to step into the spotlight on a one of the blue-bloods of the sport.

The best part about i — Fields is proving all his haters wrong. Coming out of high school as a top five-star quarterback, many jumped off his bandwagon after he couldn’t elbow his way into the starting gig at Georgia behind incumbent Jake Fromm (State Farm).

Those analysts are hopping back on now.

Through six games, Fields has put up 1,298 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. A player with the ball in his hands that much must throw some interceptions, right? Well, not Fields, who has just one pick on the year.

He’s been so impressive that the transfer is being talked about as a candidate for the Heisman trophy.

On the bulk of mainstream media’s Heisman Trophy Watch, Fields was recently named to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith’s top-five college football players.

Fields came in at No. 3. Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts was No. 1 and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa No. 2.

The shocking part is that Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence is nowhere to be found. Smith explains himself though and continues with Wisconsin’s Jonathon Taylor, the only running back on the list, and LSU’s QB Joe Burrow.

After Week 7, Smith may be reconsidering where he ranks that fifth-placed Burrow. However, Smith, who is known for his hot and sometimes very inaccurate  takes on ESPN’s First Take,  may have hit the nail on the head with this list.
