Referee Stephanie Frappart has made history once again after becoming the first female match official to take charge of a men's World Cup qualifier.
The 37-year-old took charge of the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Latvia in Amsterdam in Saturday night. Ukrainian referee Kateryna Monzul will follow Frappart’s lead on Sunday when she officiates the World Cup qualifier between Austria and Faroe Islands in Vienna.
In December, Frenchwoman Frappart became the first female official to take charge of a men's Champions League match when Italian champions Juventus defeated Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv 3-0 in the group stage in Turin.
Her first top-flight game came on April 28, 2019, when she officiated a game between SC Amiens and RC Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
She also refereed the Super Cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea later in 2019, and the women's World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands the same year.
