Steph McGovern to film The Steph Show in her living room after bringing launch forward

Steph McGovern has announced she plans to film her new TV project The Steph Show in her living room after bringing the launch date forward.

The former BBC Breakfast host was due to kick off her new Channel 4 daytime programme in the spring.

However, she's now decided to launch the show next week and she will film it at home instead of in front of a live studio audience amid the coronavirus outbreak.

She broke the news on Twitter, writing; "Bit of a (MASSIVE) change of plan We’re launching #TheStephShow NEXT WEEK LIVE from MY front room."

Steph went on to explain that the studio in Leeds where the show was due to be filmed is still in construction but building works have been put on hold due to the pandemic.

So Steph and her Channel 4 bosses came up with a new plan to get the show on air.

She added: "The fancy studio we're building in Leeds is on hold while we get through these unusual times.

"So what I’d love now are your stories. I want to pack the hour full of positive stuff. Fortunately my amazing team have set up some cracking things already but we want more! Wanna be on the show? Email the team at: steph@stephshow.co.uk."

In a statement, she went on to explain: "So this might not be how we planned it, but I’m itching to get on air and get chatting to all the people out there doing amazing stuff through these crazy times.

"Whatever you’re up to, we want to bring some much-needed joy to your day and help you navigate your way through the madness.”

Channel 4 Director of Programming Ian Katz added: "The coronavirus outbreak is an enormous creative challenge for all broadcasters and though it is having a profound impact on getting some of our productions onto screen.

"It’s also a time when public service broadcasters like Channel 4 can step up and help people navigate through the extraordinary challenges we all now face...

" I want us to be the place that captures – and hopefully lifts - the mood of the nation, connects people and helps them get through the next few months of uncertainty and isolation with a combination of useful advice, stuff to do, cheering diversion and plain fun.

"The perfect person to do that is Steph McGovern, one of the best loved and most versatile broadcasters in the country and I’m delighted that we have been able to bring forward the launch of her new show, broadcast live from her Yorkshire home daily from Monday.

"Giving people a structure to their day – and helping them to use their time stuck at home constructively - is going to be incredibly important..."

Steph left the BBC in October 2019 to join Channel 4.

She previously hosted Radio Five Live's Wake Up To Money and Watchdog as well as BBC Breakfast.
