Stellini conversation, Conte absence, Sessegnon - 5 things we learned from Tottenham training

While Tottenham's international stars play matches around the world and Antonio Conte's future continues to hang in the balance, the club's Hotspur Way training complex remains a busy place.

Training sessions and fitness work has continued at the Enfield-based training ground among the remaining Spurs players as everyone awaits news on what is to come next.

Here are five things we learned from training this week at Hotspur Way:

The Conte situation

It's now been a week since Conte let rip in that explosive press conference at St Mary's. The 53-year-old has remained in Italy this week, which is not unusual for him during international breaks due to the lack of first team players around to work with.

football.london understands that as of Saturday morning the players remained in the dark over what's happening behind the scenes with the head coach although many presume he will leave during this fortnight and are simply waiting to hear the news.

With Conte back home with his family, some of the Tottenham players were doing work at Hotspur Way on Saturday but are set to have a couple of days off before returning on Tuesday as some of the international players start making their back to the training ground.

The club will need to provide some clarity to the squad and the fans as they begin preparations for a tough Premier League match at Everton.

Stellini chatting with Davies

The future of Conte's assistant Cristian Stellini is also in doubt but the 48-year-old has been working with the players this week alongside fellow Spurs coach Ryan Mason. The duo oversaw a training ground friendly match against Ipswich on Thursday featuring a couple of first teamers and mostly U21 development squad youngsters.

Stellini can be seen in Spurs' latest video of gym work as players recovered on Friday after that training ground match and the Italian was shown on an exercise bike in conversation with Ben Davies. The Welshman has a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Clement Lenglet interrupted the conversation briefly as he walked over to greet the Spurs assistant head coach.

Who is around

The fit Spurs first teamers working at Hotspur Way include Lenglet, Arnaut Danjuma, Lucas Moura and Japhet Tanganga as well as goalkeepers Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin.

Youngster Romaine Mundle could also be seen working with them in the gym, while some of the injured first team stars are going through some of their recovery work.

Hugo Lloris returns

One of this returning players is Tottenham's captain who is back from his knee injury that he suffered against Manchester City early last month. The goalkeeper missed nine matches for Spurs but was back playing 45 minutes in that friendly against Ipswich on Thursday.

"It was good to be back on the pitch, to have that reference," said Lloris. "Obviously, it’s been a long journey, but step by step I’m closer to a return. I’ll keep working and I’d like to thank all the staff for their help."

On the moment he suffered the injury against City he explained: "It was a collision with Rodri and when he hit my right leg, I felt a movement. My knee didn’t respond. I was ready for the last kick of the game, and I kicked a strange ball! At that moment, I realised something was missing. The knee was swollen the next day. Everything feels okay now. I’ll continue to go step by step."

Sessegnon working away

Another player working towards his return is Ryan Sessegnon. The 22-year-old could be seen doing plenty of gym work as he hopes to return sooner rather than later from the hamstring injury he suffered last month.

Sessegnon, who announced this month that he is set to become a father for the first time, needs to have a strong end to the season as he faces fresh competition with the arrival of Destiny Udogie this summer after a campaign spent playing almost every minute in Serie A on loan back at Udinese.
