Stellan Skarsgård Recalls Robin Williams' Energy On 'Good Will Hunting' Set

Robert De Niro looking into camera

Stellan Skarsgård, known for his scene-stealing performance in the 1997 hit film 'Good Will Hunting,' recently shared some fond memories from his time on set. Skarsgård recalled the vibrant energy that Robin Williams brought to the project, which was written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Despite the film's serious subject matter revolving around a troubled math prodigy played by Damon and his bond with a psychologist portrayed by Williams, the set was often filled with laughter and lighthearted moments thanks to Williams' comedic antics.

Skarsgård described Williams as extremely funny and highlighted the relaxed atmosphere on set that allowed for laughter and improvisation. Williams would occasionally surprise the cast and crew by delivering entire takes in the voices of iconic actors like Robert De Niro or Jack Nicholson.

According to Skarsgård, Williams would sometimes request additional takes from director Gus Van Sant to explore his spontaneous and humorous ideas. Skarsgård praised Williams for his dedication to perfecting his comedic moments, even if it meant doing multiple takes until he felt satisfied.

Reflecting on his experience working with Williams, Skarsgård emphasized the actor's professionalism and creativity, describing him as fantastic to collaborate with. Williams' ability to infuse humor into the filming process added a unique dynamic to the set of 'Good Will Hunting' and left a lasting impression on his co-stars.
