Troubled Steiner Academy Bristol has been taken over by a Hindu trust.
Earlier this year, the state school, based in Fishponds, was placed into special measures following a damning Ofsted.
Inspectors said pupils were being put at avoidable risk of harm and school leaders were issued with a ‘termination warning notice’ forcing it to join a multi-academy trust or face being closed down.
Leaders agreed to team up with Avanti Schools Trust which already runs five schools across the country.
It is still unclear at this stage how much of Waldorf Steiner's teaching the new academy will adopt and what it will inherit from the Krishna Avanti Trust.
However, phonetics which are not taught at Steiner schools until Year Two are now being introduced to reception classes
Other schools ran by the Hindu trust integrate yoga and mindfulness into lessons.
A Department for Education spokesperson, said: “We are fully supportive of different approaches to teaching and the curriculum, but safeguarding our children and young people throughout their education is paramount, and where serious failings are found, we will intervene swiftly and robustly so that no child receives a substandard education.
“This is why, after Ofsted placed these three Steiner academies in special measures, we have secured a strong new sponsor to take these schools forward. Avanti Schools Trust, who have a track record of strong educational outcomes for their pupils, will deliver its unique vision for education and child development, building on the ethos on which these schools were founded.
"The department will work with Avanti to transfer the academies as quickly as possible so the necessary improvements can be made.”
According to the Avanti Schools Trust's website they are looking at working with more non-denomination schools.
Their 'About page' reads: "Ever since Avanti was conceived, our aspiration has been to develop both faith and non-denominational schools. Our current schools all have Hindu faith-designations and the next exciting phase for Avanti is to develop our group of non-denominational schools, underpinned by Avanti’s purpose to contribute to society through the systematic pursuit of human values and spiritual development."
