Steelers sign rookie Sutton Smith to 4-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed the first of their 2019 NFL draft class on Tuesday. The team announced via their Twitter account they were signing sixth-round pick Sutton Smith to a four-year contract.

Here is a quote from Smith about the upcoming season.

I play with a lot of heart and a lot of aggression and speed, so wherever I end up, wherever I play, I’m just going to give it 110 percent. I’m not going to look back and just have to be a hard-nosed player, and that’s what I’m going to be.

Smith’s role on the team is yet to be determined. He was primarily an edge rusher at Northern Illinois but with his size could find himself switching positions. His energy, effort and athleticism will lend themselves to special teams where he could have his greatest impact.

However, when it comes to the defense, Smith might be better suited to play some situational inside linebacker and allowed to pressure the quarterback up the middle.
