Steelers Sign Linebacker Patrick Queen In Major Defensive Move

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a significant move to strengthen their defense by signing inside linebacker Patrick Queen away from division rival Baltimore. The Steelers have reached a three-year agreement with the second-team All-Pro linebacker, valued at $41 million. The deal is set to become official once the new league year commences on Wednesday.

Queen, 24, is coming off an impressive season with the Ravens in 2023, where he recorded 133 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks, and an interception. His addition fills a crucial gap in the Steelers' defense, particularly at the inside linebacker position that has been a challenge since Ryan Shazier's career-ending injury in 2017.

Pittsburgh's inside linebacking corps faced injury setbacks last season, with players like Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander sidelined. Holcomb is recovering from knee surgery, while Alexander, who is set to become a free agent, suffered an Achilles tendon tear in November.

Queen is expected to line up alongside Elandon Roberts, who led the Steelers in tackles last season. This move provides depth and stability to the linebacker unit and eases the pressure on Holcomb's return for the upcoming season.

The signing of Queen marks the Steelers' second major acquisition during the current tampering period. The team also secured nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson on a one-year deal, with financial assistance from the Denver Broncos.

With Queen in the fold, the Steelers address a long-standing need for a versatile three-down linebacker, a role they have struggled to fill since the injury to Devin Bush in 2017. Despite previous veteran signings at the position, Queen stands out as a young and accomplished player who brings a dynamic presence to the defense.

Queen's arrival is crucial for the Steelers as they prepare to face formidable division rivals like Lamar Jackson of the Ravens and Joe Burrow of the Bengals. His skill set and experience will be invaluable in navigating the challenges of the AFC North.

Overall, the addition of Patrick Queen represents a significant boost to the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense and signals a proactive approach to fortifying the team for the upcoming season.
