Ben Roethlisberger doesn't need to wear a protective boot on his foot anymore. He did 18 hours ago, but not now. That's what the Steelers quarterback told Post-Gazette columnist Ron Cook in a Monday email, at least.
The team wanted him to wear the boot to his postgame news conference Sunday as a precaution, Roethlisberger told Cook, and that Monday's MRI came up fine.
Postgame, Roethlisberger said whatever happened to him happened on his last play of the Steelers' 30-12 win over the Dolphins; Cameron Wake rolled Roethlisberger's leg during a pass attempt.
This is par for the course for Roethlisberger; the more minor an injury is, the more likely he is to speak about it publicly. If something serious is wrong with him, you're not going to know about it. But a slight reaggravation of an old injury? Get ready for real explanations.
This is worth repeating: The more Roethlisberger talks about an injury, the better news it is for the Steelers, at least as it relates to his availability for whatever game is at the end of the week.
He likes talking about his injuries. He's also tougher than nearly anyone. Those two facts aren't mutually exclusive; we saw it last year ahead of Broncos playoff game, and we've seen it more than enough throughout the years to accept it as a fact.
If it's possible for him to play, he's going to play.
