Steelers add hybrid wide receiver in new Draft Wire mock draft

We are only a few days into the madness of the NFL offseason, things are getting crazy all over the league. This means everyone who covers the NFL draft has to start making updates and changes to their mock drafts. Our friends over at Draft Wire put up a new two-round mock draft with huge changes in both rounds. We gave it a look to see how they did for the Pittsburgh Steelers and honestly the news isn’t great.

With the No. 49 overall pick, the Steelers select former Notre Dame star Chase Claypool. Claypool is something of a cross between a big wide receiver and an undersized tight end.

In a vacuum, the Claypool pick isn’t bad at all. He’s a fascinating prospect who could be very productive in the right system. But if you look at the picks below you see where the Steelers could have gotten far more bang for their buck with the choice.

49. Pittsburgh Steelers | Chase Claypool | WR/TE | Notre Dame

50. Chicago Bears | A.J. Terrell | CB | Clemson

51. Dallas Cowboys | Justin Madubuike | DL | Texas A&M

52. Los Angeles Rams | Neville Gallimore | DL | Oklahoma

53. Philadelphia Eagles | Bryce Hall | CB | Virginia

54. Buffalo Bills | Curtis Weaver | EDGE | Boise State

55. Atlanta Falcons (from NE) | Cam Akers | RB | Florida State

56. Miami Dolphins (from NO) | Julian Okwara | EDGE | Notre Dame

57. Houston Texans | Lloyd Cushenberry III | OL | LSU

58. Minnesota Vikings | Kyle Dugger | S | Lenoir-Rhyne

59. Seattle Seahawks | Raekwon Davis | DL | Alabama

60. Baltimore Ravens | K.J. Hamler | WR | Penn State

61. Tennessee Titans | Tyler Biadasz | OL | Wisconsin

62. Green Bay Packers | Malik Harrison | LB | Ohio State

It’s tough to see guys like DL Neville Gallimore, OL Lloyd Cushenberry III and LB Malik Harrison all out there when the Steelers pick and they pass. There are several other guys on this list including DL Raekwon Davis and even WR K.J. Hamler who would give the Steelers more talent at a position of need.
