For the most part, I'm a man who enjoys the solemn silence of the woods compared to the hustle and bustle of modernity. I'd trade a day hiking through the dense, lush forests and limestone cliffs of the middle of nowhere Montana for the glitz and glamour of the Amalfi Coast or streets of Monaco. I'd rather have dirt under my nails than a pedicure.
That's not to say I don't dabble in the latter, as I've been known to have some great times soaking in the Mediterranean while sipping some fruity drink as I flip off Bezos' yacht. And my daughter loves to paint my nails in highlighter colors with sparkly glitter.
I can get fancy when I want.
But this hotel package from The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, might just have the best method of making me switch to the fancier side of things as my go-to vibe, as the hotel is offering a free custom Vespa scooter. Yeah, you just get a room and can take a legit Vespa home with you. There is a slight catch, however. The hotel package will set you back $11,000...
Can I pay for it through Klarna?
Now, from what I can see on The Resort at Pelican Hill's website, this place be the fanciest of fancies. It's a mixture of the South of France and the Italian countryside aesthetics blended into one fantastical place that screams, "Stay here to forget about the world." It should be, it's not just a five-star resort, but a five-diamond, too.
The package is called "The Villa and Vespa Experience," with prices starting at $11,000 (depending on stay), and runs through now and September. Basically, you book a villa with the resort and, with the click of a button—or call to the concierge—add a custom Resort at Pelican Hill-branded Vespa Primavera 150cc scooter. They also come with monogramed helmets, because what else are you going to wear while scooting around Newport Beach? An HJC? I think not!
Guests will also enjoy "dedicated Vespa parking in all the best locations including the Villa Clubhouse, Main Estate, Coliseum Pool, and Pelican Hill Golf Club." According to the Resort, "All taxes, fees, registration and white-glove delivery to the Resort," while the "Vespa and helmets are purchased by guest through Vespa LA as a separate transaction. They can select their preferred model and color. Helmets are Dept. of Transportation approved."
The resort will also give guests a safety class and check when they arrive at the resort.
If, however, you don't want to keep your Vespa—what's wrong with you?—the resort and Vespa LA have worked out a deal where guests can "opt to return" the scooter via a special buy-back program, but stating "Buy back pricing is determined through Vespa LA and is contingent upon the condition of the vehicle upon return." So don't wreck it on the 7th green.
That said, who wants to hand me a fuzzy robe, a pair of sliky slippers, a mojito for after my ride, and that helmet, cause I'm ready to tool around the resort in style, comfort, and in my briefs without a care in the world. I'll take a massage, too, while we're at it.
