Stanley Johnson enjoys a lockdown splashdown during 'essential' trip to Greece

The end of lockdown turned into splashdown for Stanley Johnson, the Prime Minister’s father, as he took a dip in the Aegean Sea.

Stanley Johnson, 79, last week showed travel restrictions were all Greek to him by jetting off to his villa in Paltsi Pelion.

He claimed the trip was “essential travel” to get the pad ready for renting and insisted he had to “Covid-proof” his holiday home.

PM Boris Johnson has roundly refused to criticise his dad.

Mr Johnson senior, who has been heavily criticised for making the journey, was unapologetic.

He said: “People are longing to get here, so I’ve just got one week to get everything organised.”

He travelled via Bulgaria to overcome a ban on flights from the UK to Greece.

And quarantine rules were changed just in time for him to skip the two weeks indoors on his return to the UK.

The Prime Minister refused to comment on the actions of his father, saying: "I make it a normal practice not to comment on the movements and doings of my family."

Speaking to Greek journalists last week, Mr Johnson Senior said everyone should 'move on.'

He said: "Boris is right. What's done is done and let's move on. I'm not going to refer to private conversations with members of my family.

"I'm not aware of what the response of the British people is. I've just come here for some quite moments to get the house ready.'

Asked why he took pictures of his trip to Greece down from his Instagram account, he said: "It is true. I did take them down. I did not post them in defiance. There has not been an breach on my behalf."

He added: "But we should open this bridge between Greece and the UK soonest,' he said. 'Greece is a country that has it all. I won't get into whether my actions were right or wrong. What's done is done.

"While being here, how can you not think how great it would be for the governments of these two countries to come to a quick agreement (on travel)."

Stanley Johnson is expected to return from Greece to the UK today.
