Drivers have been stuck in a queue of traffic near Newcastle city centre after a two-vehicle crash.

The collision happened just after 2.20pm on Tuesday on the northbound carriageway of the A167(M) Central Motorway just after the Swan House Roundabout.

Police were dealing with the collision for around an hour after it partially blocked the road near to the Northumbria University campus.

There was heavy traffic back over the Tyne Bridge and into Gateshead during the emergency response.

Nobody involved in the crash was believed to be seriously injured.

Recovery was arranged and the vehicles involved were cleared at around 3.20pm.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 2.23pm today, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A167(M) Central Motorway in Newcastle near the Swan House roundabout.

"Officers were at the scene, and thankfully nobody is believed to be seriously injured.
