Stan Collymore has this Jorge Mendes message as Nottingham Forest appoint Sabri Lamouchi

Former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has admitted he is concerned about the influence of Jorge Mendes after his old club announced Sabri Lamouchi as their new manager.

The Reds sacked Martin O'Neill after just five months in charge after he led the club to a ninth place finish in the Championship.

Lamouchi was an immediate replacement as the former Ivory Coast and Rennes boss becomes the 13th full-time boss in eight years.

The new boss at the City Ground is a client of Jorge Mendes, agent to some of the biggest and most famous footballers on the planet.

As former agent of then-manager Aitor Karanka, Mendes helped the Reds sign Benfica duo Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves along with Gil Dias, from French outfit AS Monaco, last summer.

And he seems to have played a part in the managerial appointment ahead of the 2019/20 season.

After the news came out, Collymore posted on social media: "Sabri Lamouchi, a Jorge Mendes joint.

"The year is 2035 and every manager,  player and CEO on the planet is advised by Mendes.

"Some fans will point to his improving their club, some gutting the heart from them.

"For me, not a positive influence in the sport."

Fellow pundit Chris Sutton has also given his verdict on the departure of Martin O'Neill. The former striker, who worked with O'Neill at Celtic, tweeted: "The game has gone."
