Stan Collymore among pundits predicting Leeds United lay down 'another marker' against Liverpool

A number of pundits have issued their predictions for Leeds United's Premier League clash against Liverpool on Monday.

The Whites starred last time out against league leaders Manchester City, securing a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium, and are looking to build upon that result against Jurgen Klopp's side.

While it is set to be a stern test for Leeds, two pundits have backed Marcelo Bielsa's side to take all three points from the match.

"Now Leeds are the neutrals’ favourite. Their football is great and I’m taking them to beat Liverpool in the Monday night game. It should be a fantastic match-up, but my boys are dining at the top table now - and having a right old feast!" Vinnie Jones told EasyOdds.

Stan Collymore agrees with Jones assessment, predicting a 3-2 victory for the Whites and stating in his Sunday People column: "Leeds beat Manchester City and they will see this game as another marker of their progress this season."

However, two former Liverpool men expected Jurgen Klopp's side to emerge victorious in their trip to Elland Road.

"This was one heck of a game at Anfield at the start of the season, when Liverpool won 4-3. We could be in for another cracker here, too. Leeds come into the game fresh from beating Manchester City and, although Liverpool got knocked out of the Champions League in midweek, they looked sharp against Real Madrid," Mark Lawrenson told the BBC.

"The Reds created some good early chances, and played well, certainly in the first half. Real kept them a little bit at arms length after the break.

"I can see Liverpool getting some opportunities on Monday too, but Leeds will too. Marcelo Bielsa's side have had a brilliant season, and it's such a shame so few people have got to go to any of their games."

"Matchday one seems long ago now, however, it sure did set the tone for Leeds’ season when they went down fighting in a 4-3 win for Liverpool," Michael Owen told BetVictor.

"Fresh from victory at the Etihad, belief will be sky-high within the Elland Road ranks. One positive for them is that Liverpool have played midweek in Europe, as that definitely worked in their favour in their victory at City.

"That said, there has been a bit of an improvement in Liverpool’s recent performances, especially on the road domestically. With that in mind, I’m siding with the Reds’ to carve out a narrow victory."

Crunching the numbers, data experts FiveThirtyEight have issued a rather blunt verdict on Leeds' hopes despite their impressive performances this season.

The Whites have been given just a 16% chance of taking all three points off Liverpool, with a 20% chance of drawing the match.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been made firm favourites for the clash with a 64% chance of securing a win on the road.
