Stage show that's so scary it made audience members faint is returning to Liverpool

A stage show that was so terrifying that it made audience members faint is returning to Liverpool.

Ghost Stories, by Wanderlust's Andy Nyman and League of Gentleman writer Jeremy Dyson, premiered at the city's Playhouse theatre in 2010 - when there were reports of audience members fainting and screaming.

It is now returning to the same stage as part of its first UK tour after successful runs in the West End and abroad, as well as a film version released in 2017.

A series of different ghost stories, the play won five star reviews on its previous outing to the Liverpool Playhouse .

Billed as "a nightmarish world, full of thrilling twists and turns, where all your deepest fears and most disturbing thoughts are imagined live on stage, it comes with a self-imposed 15 certificate.

A warning to those thinking of booking a ticket reads: "Please be advised that Ghost Stories contains moments of extreme shock and tension.

"The show is unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15. We strongly advise those of a nervous disposition to think very seriously before attending."

The Olivier Award-nominated show opens at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on January 6, 2020 before continuing to Bath, Theatre Royal; Nottingham, Theatre Royal; Working, New Victoria Theatre; Aylesbury, Waterside Theatre; Brighton, Theatre Royal; The Lowry, Manchester; Cardiff, New Theatre; The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury; York, Grand Opera House; Richmond Theatre; Liverpool Playhouse, Glasgow, Theatre Royal; King’s Theatre, Edinburgh and the Sheffield Lyceum.

Ghost Stories will be at the Liverpool Playhouse from March 31 to April 4, 2020.
