A Staffordshire bull terrier had to be put to sleep after being subjected to a horrific acid attack.

The female family pet was taken in by Hannah Marriott after it appeared at her door with sickening injuries.

The injured dog was found in the Parkhead area of the city on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people took to social media to vent their horror at the animal's treatment, reports Belfast Live.

One said: "The owner of the dog has been notified and they are traumatised by what has happened to their family pet."
