St Mullins selector recovering well after falling ill during Carlow club's shock Leinster win over Cuala

St Mullins selector Michael Ryan is recovering after falling ill during their shock Leinster SHC quarter-final win over Cuala yesterday.

The Carlow champions shocked the former two-in-a-row All-Ireland winners at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday, running out 2-13 0-18 winners on the back of a 0-10 display from Carlow captain Marty Kavanagh, and goals from Jack Kavanagh and James Doyle.

They book a semi-final place against Rathdowney Errill of Laois, set for next weekend back in Carlow once again.

Mr Ryan was taken ill in the stands during the game and is believed ton have suffered a heart attack, according to reports in the Irish Independent this morning.

But swift medical care from Cuala supporter Dr Niamh Murphy in the stands helped Mr Ryan, who was tended to in an ambulance which arrived on the field after the game was over, and stayed there for close to an hour.

Both clubs thanked the supporters on Twitter as Mullins also gave a positive update on Mr Ryan's condition.
