St Mirren midfielder Jamie McGrath reveals delight at making senior Ireland debut

Jamie McGrath insists his Ireland debut was so special to him he'll 'take it to the grave'.

The influential St Mirren playmaker was called up to the senior Ireland squad for the first time by Stephen Kenny on the back of an incredible campaign which saw him net 17 times in all competitions.

An impressive brace in the Buddies' famous 3-2 League Cup win over Rangers, as well as doubles against Dundee United and Ross County, saw the midfielder's stock rise significantly.

And after training with the national team this week after receiving a call-up every Saints fan - including manager and fellow Irishman Jim Goodwin - was pleading for, he made his senior debut last night when he replaced Troy Parrott for the last 10 minutes of Ireland's 4-1 friendly win over Andorra.

Posting on social media after the match, McGrath said: "A moment I’ll take to the grave.

"Such a proud moment for me and my family."

The win secured Stephen Kenny a first victory in 12 games as national boss, having struggled to get the country firing so far since taking charge in November 2018.
